Why El Raton Will Eventually Rat

This photo was taken before Ovidio’s first court appearance. If I had to guess, a US Marshall took this in-your-face cellphone picture.

We tend to troubleshoot the side effects and forget about the problem. Such is the case of Ovidio being extradited. News of Ovidio’s extradition caused an influx of chatter around Ovidio turning on his brothers and a division between Ivan and Jesus.

Not all Chapitos are equal. I explained this in detail in a previous post, I call it "La otra familia.” In summary, the other family, López (Ovidio and Joaquin), are frowned upon and not equal to the first family, Salazar (Ivan and Jesus). This hierarchy of family is how cartels structure their families in business. Of course, you will find exceptions to this, but it’s much like a monarch.

There are only 2 Chapitos, Ivan and Jesus. The Salazar brothers have been called “Chapitos” before the DOJ and media started including Ovidio and Joaquin as “Chapitos.” The Chapitos view The Lopez brothers more as cousins than brothers, trusted family members they could boss around and to whom they gave jobs.

From my research on Ovidio and Joaquin, the anxiety and mental health issues they have are to be expected. Before you call bullshit and say I am humanizing them, hear me out first. Both idolized their older brother whose tragic murder included bazookas. Instead of counseling or having a stable family to discuss with, they dealt with it and it changed them. Due to Edgar’s murder, Chapo made the decision to integrate all the boys into CDS at high positions to secure the family business.

Before his arrest, Ovidio successfully escaped his home and returned when his wife called and he received news that one of his daughters was having a panic attack as the house was under attack. Ovidio married young and quickly started a family with his wife wearing “the pants” in the relationship. His immediate family is the most important thing to him. Understanding Ovidio better, it’s my belief that Ovidio will break and turn on his brothers down the road.

Family being the most important to Ovidio, who’s going to visit him in the US? Not his dad, his mom is wanted in the US, and his brother Joaquin is wanted. Maybe his sister will make the trip. Ovidio’s wife was previously on some financial blacklist, but she would be crazy to chance traveling to the US; just ask Mencho’s daughter who visited her brother.

My belief is Ovidio will go through a trial because that is what Iván has instructed his lawyer to do, so there is no appearance of a deal being made. It’s also a dry-run trial for Ivan or Jesus if that comes. I see Ovidio cooperating fully in 7 years or sooner (he will be 40) as the lack of family support and human interaction takes a toll on him.

Why wait? There is no opportunity to cooperate. Regarding Fentanyl, Ovidio is the big dog who pioneered what it is today and is considered a DOJ trophy. Ovidio’s “value” will change down the road as other leaders are arrested. Everything will reset when a new president arrives next year in both Mexico and US.

  2. As always damn good article mica and second I think he gonna snitch to try and get out and save his wife and kids but may or may not give up his brothers. I think it’s a 50/50 crap shot on that one. Tbh he does look like the weak link in the family but you never know he might give up information on everybody else except his family.

    1. What I have learned is Jesus was not expected to be there, but the guards that got apprehended met the criteria for being the inner circle of Jesus. Even though Iván and Jesus both have the same reward, Iván is more restricted in his movement than Jesus.

    1. That’s from my continuous years of research on Ivan, Jesus, Ovidio and Joaquin that includes speaking to someone who directly spent time with Joaquin Lopez on a personal level and much more.

I am not trying to come off as bragging, but my research is really good or I wouldn’t spend my free time doing this.
